I love art and because of that, I’m trying to get my son exposed to art from an early age.  We have been to several museums, but it gets tricky with a one year old.  This is especially true because we don’t want to inadvertently ruin the museum experience for anybody else.  This is where Art Omi comes in to save the day.  There is art and it is outside. Win and win!  My son can run around all he likes, scream, and be fascinated with the giant sculptures scattered throughout the grounds, and it won’t ruin anybody else’s own personal art experience.

Omi International Art Center (Art Omi)

The Omi International Art Center is an art gallery and sculpture park that sits on 300 acres of property in upstate New York. There is something for artists and art lovers alike.  Art Omi has a world renown artists’ residency program, an art gallery and sculpture park.  The Charles B. Benenson Visitors Center and Gallery is open during normal business hours, from 11-5pm.  In addition to the visitors center and gallery with permanent exhibitions, this space features lectures, special exhibits, art events, and a small cafe.  The Fields Sculpture Park, that we visited during our visit, is open every day during daylight hours.

Fields Sculpture Park

The sculpture park contains ten different sections that visitors can walk through.  There are several trails throughout, so visitors can decide to meander or loop around to the difference areas.  Picnic tables are placed throughout, so if it’s a nice day, be sure to pack a lunch.  Some sculptures are wide out in the open, while other pieces are tucked away in the trees, allowing visitors a chance to explore.

The wonderful thing about the Fields Sculpture Park at Art Omi is that there is art literally everywhere.  The art ranges from abstract to figurative with everything in between.  My son, who just recently found his walking feet, was thrilled with all the wonderful things to see.
